Summer Streets at The Park Avenue Tunnel

8/14/2014 - By Marea Edynak

Be Part of The 'Dive"
as You Walk Through Visit Murray Hill's Park Avenue Tunnel
on Saturday, August 16

As part of the much loved Summer Streets Program when 7 miles of Park Avenue is shut down to vehicular traffic you can walk through the Park Avenue Tunnell
and immerse yourself in a 7 block long sound installation, The Dive.

Norwegian artist Jana Winderen uses sounds recorded from shallow to deep underwater environments in Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Canada, USA, Thailand, and around the equator in the Caribbean and the Pacific. Ms. Winderen records sounds made by crustaceans, fish and mammals using sensitive hydrophones.
She hopes to create a lively environment by producing sound pockets of different habitats that the public would experience as they ‘dive’ further into the tunnel.
