Saint Patrick's Day Parade

3/16/2016 - By Marea Edynak

March 17 starting at 11 AM
Ending between 2 and 3 PM

You don't have to be Irish to love the parade. It has been a highlight for New Yorkers and since 1766 when  the first official St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City was held in 1766 by Irish military men serving in the American colonies.

The parade goes up 5th Avenue from 44th to 79th Streets. Despite not allowing floats, autos or exhibits, there are over 150,000 marchers every year.

The best viewing spots are north of 59th Street and the crowds. It is most crowded at St. Patrick's Cathedral and in the area immediately around there.

The grandstands are located between 62nd and 64th Streets, and are accessible only with a ticket.

If you can find a viewing spot close to the grandstands, you might be able to see the marchers performing for the judges.
