11/14/2012 - By Marea Edynak

It’s here again…..some say it’s the best time of the year….Christmas. It’s festive. It’s magical. It’s enchanting.

The City’s dazzling display of lights will help you celebrate the holidays with a special glow. Some stores start a planning a year in advance just to please you and add to the spirit of wonderful.

Here is my list of some of the holiday windows I love and you don’t want to miss:

Bergdorf Goodman always has the most innovative and elaborate windows in a display of wild imagination and artistry. The photo above was taken December 13. The other windows open November 20. See them at Fifth Avenue between 57th and 58th Streets.

Lord and Taylor is known and loved for its tiny intricate animated dolls with extraordinary attention to detail. This is a favorite of little girls of all ages and is especially recommended for Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta Troupe 1544 on their visit this week. The windows opened yesterday. See them at 425 Fifth Avenue between 38 and 39th Streets.

Barney’s windows often offer innovative surprises and we all love be surprised. This year they worked with the Walt Disney Company to create an animated showpiece, Electric Holiday. Look for Disney Creatures immersed in the world of Haute Couture. The windows open today, November 14.  See them at 660 Madison Avenue at 61st Street.

Bloomingdale’s loves the Cirque du Soleil this year. The windows opened yesterday and are already fascinating the crowds with scenes from the film Cirque Du Soleil Worlds Away. See them at 59th Street and Lexington Avenue

Saks Fifth Avenue is reported to feature snow, snow and more snow with a Snowflake spectacular display in all of the stores 12 windows. Windows open November 29. See them at 611 Fifth Avenue at 49th Street.

Macy’s windows will feature The Magic of Christmas with a motorized display of 150 years of fashion and traditions of times past. Windows open November 15.  See them at 151 West 34th Street at Seventh Avenue.

Tiffany & Co. will once again regale us with fantastic jewels in a dreamy wintertime setting. And don’t we all dream of finding a blue Tiffany box in our Christmas stockings. Windows open November 19. See them at 727 Fifth Avenue between 56 and 57th Street

Henri Bendel’s sophisticated windows will take us back to the glamour of the 1920’s. Windows open November 15. See them at 712 Fifth Avenue at 56th Street

Tip for Travelers: The lines to view the windows are often long. Usually the lines are shortest or almost non existant early in the morning and on weekdays, except for Thanksgiving Day.
