Tin Pan Alley, A landmark of American Music

At the beginning of the 20th Century West  28th Street between 6th Avenue and Broadway in Manhattan was the center of music songwriting and publishing.
 
Do you know how it got its nickname?
 
At the time  the music business was the sheet music business. The many  publishers on the street all hired "pluggers" to play songs for prospective customers. The noise  from all of their pianos playing different songs  at the same time  sounded like a band of people banging on tin pans.
 
It is now part of the NoMad (North Of Madison Square Park) neighborhood of Manhattan
 
Shown are buildings  numbered 43 to 47 on West 28th Street built between 1915 and 1920.
