The Queensboro Bridge
4/8/2015 - By Marea Edynak
“The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the mystery and the beauty in the world.” F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
Officially named the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, the Queensboro Bridge is also known by locals as the 59th Street Bridge because its Manhattan end is located between 59th Street and 60th Streets.
Completed in 1909, it is a cantilever bridge crossing over the East River. It connects the neighborhood of Long Island City in Queens with Manhattan and passes over Roosevelt Island.
