The Freedom Tower is Almost finished

6/9/2013 - By Marea Edynak

The NYC skyline is flourishing once again. After the barbaric 911 attacks the Freedom Tower proudly reigns over lower Manhattan.  It took 12 long years of planning and building to reach its final height of 1,776 feet (541.3 meters) making it the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Our nation’s declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.

Some interesting facts: When completed the Freedom Tower will have over 3.5 million square feet on 104 floors. An observation deck will be located 1,362 feet above ground on the 105th floor and there will be a square glass parapet at 1,368 feet, the heights of the original Twin Towers. From these, an illuminated spire containing a television antenna will rise to a final height of 1,776 feet.

It is constructed of impermeable concrete and steel. The cost of construction is estimated to reach $3.8 billion.

The building is expected to be mostly complete in late 2013, with some interior fit out continuing into 2014

It is now called One World Trade or 1 WTC. Many New Yorkers prefer the old name, Freedom Tower. What do you think?
